Hi,

Going to need a bit more info then this I think...

What spec and what age is the PC you are having trouble with?

Have you tested memory? reseat the ram.
How did you test the hard disk?
What software tools have you used to test windows? which OS is it?
Have you checked for malware/virus?
What BSOD errors are they? Graphics drivers might need an upgrade?
CPU overheating perhaps check temps in Bios...
Interior of PC case needs a clean out maybe clogged fans or not running at all?
if the PC is maybe over 3 years have a look at the motherboard for any signs of blown capacitors...

Nice long list could be longer  Smiley

if you have any more ?? lest me know and I'll try to help

Out of interest I noticed that this is a first time for you on this board. How did you become aware of it?

I came aware of the site as i got messages in my inbox of micro 2000 which i really  enjoyed to read.So i gave a shot at the forum and here i am.
My computer is very old about 5 yhrs old.its an xp home edition pcw1 series pentium 4, very good lookin with an attached keyboard and cpu to the monitor.
I use reg cure because i thought registry is the problem that causes bluescreens and constant freezing but it still freezes anyway.
Then i gave a ram a shot by changing it coz the old one by noticing even froze the computer more frequently. So i consulted crutial and i got a compartible ram sent through my post.I know how to install the ram so i did.took out the old one and inserted new one.The computer worked fine but after about 8 hrs,the freezing poped up again.hard disk test is fine.dont know how to do video card test though. No error messeges apart from blue screens. If i played too many videos over time, the computer will freez or bsod.If i open up to many web pages the same thing happens. My computer has also got 2 ram slots.i put two new rams all compartible.I noticed a speed change but the freezing didnt give up,its still haunting my computer.Thats as much detail as i can give which could be hard to read. And there is my story.I will be happy if u helped.

Hi

Suggest you check the motherboard first for any capacitor that might be failing unfortunately you can't check the bases but have a look at the tops of these to see if any are showing signs of bulging or brown stains if there is any sign then your motherboard is likely to be the cause of the problem. check out this wiki for more info on this.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capacitor_plague

Your hard disk needs to be tested for bad sectors download a HD diagnostics tool from
http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/support/downloads/seatools

Ideally you should consider purchasing the hardware diagnostics tool from Micro2000 http://www.micro2000.co.uk/products/microscope/microscope.html

When you get the BSOD's what are the messages given.

Otherwise backup all your data and reinstall Windows XP fresh
and then see if the issue still exists if it doesnt then likley to have been a software issue. A 5 year old PC though is going to need  lot of attention because of all the windows updates etc..
Shocked
Give me a breakdown of what you do and we will take it step by step...

we need to start ticking boxes

I would suggest downloading Seatools for DOS and creating a bootable CD.

See the tutorial on the seagate site on how to do this.
